The River Nidd runs alongside Abbey Road at this point, a route many visitors take to visit the 'House in the Rock'
St Robert's chapel is reouted to have been carved into the rock face alongside the River Nidd in 1408 to commemorate Robert Flower, a hermit who lived in a cave at this point. Flower was said to have a gift for healing.
A carving on rock face outside the cave of a knight drawing a sword is said to be a representation of Robert.
Next door to the cave is a famous Knaresborough folly known as the House in the Rock, which can be viewed from below on Abbey Road.
